Seasonal influenza causes hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and tens of thousands of deaths in the United States each year. The Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers (CIVICs) program was created by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, to develop more durable, broadly protective, and longer-lasting influenza vaccines.
